About the program

Warwick Area Career & Technical Center offers a three-year, 1,500-hour cosmetology course for students in Warwick Public Schools and partner districts. Training covers hair, skin and nail care, with business skills and supervised salon practice.

  • Year 1: Professional practice, infection control and foundational hair, skin and nail techniques.
  • Year 2: Anatomy, hair coloring and chemical services, advanced techniques and continued practical work.
  • Year 3: Salon-client work, business and employment preparation, and practice for the state licensing exam.

What you get

The course provides preparation for Rhode Island’s cosmetology licensing exam. The final year includes supervised work with salon clients and regular practice for the practical exam.

The professional license is a separate step: students who successfully complete the 1,500-hour course can take the licensing exam; completing training does not itself issue a license.
