About the program

Newport Area Career and Technical Center offers a four-year, 1,200-hour high-school cosmetology pathway. Students develop hair, skin and nail skills through practical lessons and work in the student salon.

How you learn: Practical training takes place in the salon. Theory lessons and cosmetology books are accessed digitally through MiladyCIMA.

What you get

You work toward a high-school diploma while developing practical cosmetology skills.

Professional licensing is a separate step. The cosmetology pathway includes 1,200 hours of training and preparation for the written and practical licensing exams through the Rhode Island Department of Health. Completing school does not itself issue a cosmetology license.
