About the program
BCTC’s three-year cosmetology program covers hairstyling, haircutting, manicures, facials, makeup, artificial nails, ethnic hair care, salon management, and related science and sanitation topics. Students gain practical experience in BCTC’s on-campus cosmetology clinics. Starting in grade 10 gives the best opportunity to finish the licensing hours before graduation; later entrants may need tuition-paying adult completion.
What you get
The three-year program is designed to meet Pennsylvania’s 1,250-hour cosmetology requirement. After completing the required hours, students may take the Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology licensing examination.
Schedules & start dates
BCTC offers morning and afternoon instructional sessions. The general school-day session times are 7:45 AM–11:00 AM and 11:45 AM–3:00 PM, but individual attendance times vary with district transportation and scheduling.

High-school tuition is free for eligible district students. The Level 1 kit is approximately $603, with additional priced supplies and unpriced required uniforms and footwear. Entry requirements
The program recommends reading at grade level, Algebra I or Geometry, problem-solving, independent and team-work ability, hand-eye coordination, depth and color perception, artistic ability, and communication skills.
Application steps
For the 2027–2028 school year, complete your application through your school district, submit two recommendations, complete the Career Exploration Evidence, and complete the admissions agreement with a parent or guardian. Your district school counselor completes the remaining review steps. Submit all materials by December 15 for first-round consideration; district deadlines may be earlier. Applications for 2026–2027 are closed.
