The Cosmetic Arts Diploma (D55140) combines classroom learning with practical salon training at Surry Community College’s Dobson campus. You study hair design, chemical services, skin and nail care, multicultural practices, professional presentation and salon business skills.
The diploma requires 48 academic credits. It is separate from the college’s certificate, associate-degree and workforce-training routes.
You earn the Cosmetic Arts Diploma after completing the required coursework and college graduation requirements. These include:
The diploma and your professional license are separate. The program prepares graduates for the state cosmetology examination; earning the school diploma does not itself issue that license.
The suggested sequence covers four semesters: fall, spring, summer and the following fall. Weekly class attendance and the next intake date are separate from this curriculum plan.

Eligible students may apply through approved private lenders. These are not federal Direct Loans.
These are the regular curriculum-admission steps; the separate high-school Career and College Promise route has its own enrollment process.
