About the program

Sampson Community College’s Cosmetology AAS degree combines hands-on salon training with general-education coursework. Study includes hair design, chemical services, skin and nail care, client consultation, safety and business skills.

The degree requires 65–66 academic credits. These are college credits, not the number of practical training hours. The college also lists separate diploma and certificate routes; their requirements are not interchangeable with the degree.

What you get

This route leads to an AAS degree in cosmetology after completing its academic requirements. Outstanding college balances must be cleared for graduation and release of records.

The degree and the professional license are separate: the program prepares graduates for the State Board examination, and passing that examination is part of the licensing process.

Federal financial aid

Available to qualifying students

Eligible AAS students can apply for Pell Grants, supplemental federal grants and work-study. State and Foundation scholarships may also help, subject to their own requirements and available funding.

The college does not participate in federal student loan programs. A grant, scholarship or work-study award should not be confused with a loan.

  1. Complete North Carolina’s residency determination.
  2. Submit the college application through CFNC.
  3. Arrange for official high-school or equivalency records and any previous college transcripts.
  4. Complete Viking Orientation and the Viking CREW course if you are new or have been out of enrollment for more than a year.
