About the program

Cape Fear Community College’s Cosmetology Diploma combines classroom learning with practical training in a simulated salon. You study hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, professional practices, and business fundamentals.

  • Diploma (D55140): A 47-credit sequence over four terms: fall, spring, summer, and the following fall.
  • Associate in Applied Science (A55140): A separate degree route is also available.

The college also offers shorter certificates. These are different awards and should not be treated as equivalent to completing the diploma or degree.

What you get

Complete the diploma requirements to earn a Diploma in Cosmetology. College graduation requires satisfactory course and laboratory grades, at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, and at least 25% of the program’s credits completed at CFCC.

The training prepares you for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts examination. Your school diploma and professional license are separate: completing the program does not itself issue a cosmetology license.
