About the program
Shawsheen’s cosmetology pathway combines high-school academics with practical training in hair, skin and nails.
- Grade 9: explore vocational areas before receiving a permanent shop placement.
- Grades 10–12: build styling, cutting, nail and skin-care skills, then progress to chemical services, salon clients and preparation for the Massachusetts cosmetology examination.
The programme includes 1,000 hours of cosmetology training. Admission to Shawsheen does not guarantee a place in cosmetology; shop choices, exploratory grades and available places determine placement.
What you get
The high-school pathway leads to a High School Diploma when you meet the school’s academic, competency and shop requirements. Required credits and shop hours must be verified, and senior sign-out requirements must be completed.
- Your school qualification: the diploma recognises completion of the high-school programme.
- Your cosmetology training: the curriculum includes 1,000 training hours and preparation for the Massachusetts cosmetology examination. The school qualification does not itself grant a professional license.
Schedules & start dates
Cosmetology is part of the high-school day, alongside academic classes and related theory. School attendance time and credited cosmetology training hours are different: the 1,000-hour cosmetology requirement is not the school’s full academic or vocational graduation requirement.

Additional fees may apply for certification examinations, state licensing examinations and industry credentials. A full cosmetology cost, including any kit or materials charges, is not confirmed.

How to enroll
Entry requirements
This is a high-school pathway, not a confirmed adult-training course. Applications for grade 9 begin in September of the student’s grade 8 year. Upper-class applicants can apply in spring for fall admission; admission during the school year depends on available openings.
Cosmetology placement is a separate decision. Students rank their vocational preferences after grade 9 exploration. If demand exceeds capacity, exploratory grades determine the order in which places are offered.
Application steps
- Apply to Shawsheen through its admissions process. Grade 9 applications begin during grade 8; upper-class applications for fall admission are accepted in spring.
- If accepted, complete new-student registration. A parent or guardian uses Aspen on a desktop or laptop and provides the requested student information and physical-exam document.
- Take part in grade 9 exploration and rank your shop choices. Cosmetology placement depends on exploratory performance and available places, rather than school admission alone.
