About the program
Peabody Veterans Memorial High School’s cosmetology program teaches hair cutting, coloring, foiling, permanent waving and straightening, along with facials, scalp treatments, makeup and nail services. Students develop practical and customer-service skills in the school’s on-campus, full-service salon clinic.
This is a high-school CTE pathway, beginning with grade 9 exploration before three years of more specialized study. Admission to exploration is separate from placement in cosmetology; a first-choice program place is not guaranteed.
What you get
Students work toward a High School Diploma while completing their cosmetology training. School graduation and professional licensing are separate achievements.
- For the diploma: complete the school’s required academic courses, credits and community service.
- For cosmetology licensing: complete 1,000 theory and practical hours, then take the state board examination. Finishing school alone does not issue a professional license.
- Additional training: the program lists color certification through Coastline Enterprise.
Schedules & start dates
Students begin with grade 9 career exploration, rotating through technical areas before selecting a concentration. The pathway then continues with three years of progressively more intensive study.
The 1,000 theory and practical hours are cosmetology training hours, not a weekly attendance figure or a replacement for the rest of the high-school curriculum.

How to enroll
Entry requirements
- Peabody residents: the usual entry route is to apply as a rising ninth grader, with proof of residence.
- Nonresidents: district admission requires school-choice and superintendent approval, followed by the separate Chapter 74 application process.
Exploration is not a reserved cosmetology place. Students rotate through CTE programs before selecting a concentration.
Application steps
- Find the CTE application on the school’s Career Technical Education page. For rising ninth-grade Peabody residents, the stated application window is November 1–March 1 during eighth grade.
- Include the student’s school email and a parent or guardian’s email and phone number, and submit proof of Peabody residence through the Central Office or ASPEN.
- If applications exceed available places, entry to exploration uses a lottery. Students not selected join a waiting list; late applications are considered only if places remain.
- Complete exploration before choosing a concentration. A place in exploration is not a reserved cosmetology place.
Nonresident applicants: obtain district/superintendent approval, apply to PVMHS by March 15, and submit the Non-Resident Student Tuition Application to the home district by April 1 of the preceding school year.
