About the program

Minuteman’s cosmetology pathway covers hair cutting, styling and coloring, skin care and makeup, nail care, and social media presence. Students develop practical skills by serving real clients in the school’s fully equipped, on-site salon, supervised by experienced instructors.

Students begin high school with grade 9 career exploration before choosing a technical major. Placement depends on exploratory grades and available places, so admission to the school does not guarantee a cosmetology place.

What you get

Students work toward a Minuteman High School Diploma, completing both academic classes and technical study. To graduate, students must finish the required coursework and meet the school’s competency standards.

Cosmetology students also prepare for industry certification examinations through supervised salon practice. The program lists Massachusetts cosmetology licensing, OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Safety, and Barbicide among its industry certifications; these are separate from the high-school diploma.

How to enroll

Entry requirements

This is a grades 9–12 public high-school pathway. Minuteman’s nine member towns are Acton, Arlington, Bolton, Concord, Dover, Lancaster, Lexington, Needham and Stow.

Out-of-district students may also apply, using a separate application deadline. Nonresident applications are considered when places remain after completed resident applications. Admission and technical-major placement are separate stages.

Application steps

  1. Create an account and complete the online application.
  2. Member-town applicants: complete the process by the first Monday in February. Out-of-district applicants: apply by March 15, then file the nonresident tuition application with the home-district superintendent by April 1.
  3. If applications exceed places, admission uses a lottery. Some students may receive additional entries under the admissions policy.
  4. If offered a place, confirm or decline within seven calendar days of notification.

A school place does not reserve a cosmetology place. Technical-major placement follows the grade 9 exploratory process.
