About the program

Study hair, skin and nail care alongside your high-school academic courses at Bristol-Plymouth. The cosmetology pathway develops skills in hairstyling, coloring, chemical services and salon management, with theory and realistic work situations.

Training progresses from introductory skills in freshman year to hair design, sanitation, anatomy, chemical services and salon marketing in later years. The school identifies 1,000 hours of cosmetology clinic instruction as preparation for the state licensing examination.

What you get

Work toward a high-school diploma and vocational/technical certificate while preparing for cosmetology licensing.

  • Complete the required academic credits and technical training.
  • Meet attendance requirements and settle outstanding school obligations.
  • The cosmetology program’s 1,000 hours of clinic instruction prepare students for the state licensing examination. The school award is not itself a professional license.

Schedules & start dates

Academic and technical instruction take place in alternating weeks. Ninth-graders begin with exploratory rotations before permanent placement in a technical program. School-day hours include academic study as well as shop work; they are not a measure of weekly cosmetology instruction.

How to enroll

Entry requirements

This is a high-school pathway, rather than a standalone adult cosmetology course. Students apply to Bristol-Plymouth and complete the school’s admissions process.

Ninth-graders take part in exploratory before choosing a technical program. Permanent placement considers student interests, performance and program availability, so school admission does not guarantee a cosmetology place. Incoming and transfer students must provide a current physical examination before school starts.

Application steps

  1. Apply to Bristol-Plymouth online. Prepare your school records and guidance-counselor recommendation, and complete the admissions interview.
  2. If accepted, return the registration information promptly to confirm that you want to attend.
  3. Complete freshman exploratory and rank your preferred programs. Technical-program placement follows the exploratory process and available places.
