About the program

North Point High School offers a 1,500-hour cosmetology pathway in grades 10–12. Training combines classroom instruction, clinical experience, mentored work-based learning and a senior capstone project.

The course sequence builds in three stages:

  • Principles and Practice of Cosmetology — grade 10: foundational hair, skin and nail care, with opportunities to earn the first 500 hours.
  • Advanced Cosmetology Theory and Application — grade 11: more advanced services, working toward 1,000 accumulated hours. A salon internship is required after that milestone.
  • Mastery of Cosmetology — grade 12: portfolio and project work alongside preparation for Maryland’s cosmetology examinations.

What you get

Students complete all three required cosmetology courses and work toward 1,500 hours. Final-year work includes a cosmetology portfolio and projects in salon management, chemistry and nail care.

Students must take the Maryland Board of Cosmetology examinations before graduation after completing the required hours. The pathway prepares students for professional licensing; completing school coursework is not itself a professional license.

How to enroll

Entry requirements

Applicants must be current eighth graders, and both the student and parent or guardian must live in Charles County. Students may attend a CCPS middle school, a private school or home school.

A separate CTE application is required, including for students already zoned for North Point. Accepted students attend North Point High School full time; acceptance into a CTE program is not automatic.
