About the program

Carver Center offers a 1,500-hour cosmetology program within its high school magnet curriculum. Students develop hair, skin and nail-care skills, alongside professional development, communication and marketing.

The program also covers salon management, computer imaging consultations, theatrical makeup and hairstyling. Cosmetology students provide makeup for the Carver Theatre Company, connecting their training with the school’s performing arts.

What you get

To complete the cosmetology CTE program, students must earn at least 1,500 hours of course instruction and take Maryland’s cosmetology licensing examination. Taking the state examination is a graduation requirement for cosmetology program-completer status.

The training prepares students for professional licensing; completing the school program does not automatically issue a cosmetology license. A separate school-issued cosmetology certificate or diploma is not specified.
