About the program

Center of Applied Technology North offers a six-high-school-credit cosmetology pathway. Students learn hairstyling, chemical treatments, nail and skin care, and wellness services, with an emphasis on health and safety. Training also covers professionalism, customer service, entrepreneurship and salon management.

The pathway follows four courses in sequence: Cosmetology 1, 2, 3 and 4. It is a high school CTE pathway, rather than an open-enrollment adult beauty-school program.

What you get

The four-course sequence totals six high school credits and prepares students for Maryland cosmetology licensing. Training combines practical service skills with health, safety and salon-business knowledge.

Completing the school coursework does not automatically grant a professional license; licensure is separate from the high school course credits.

How to enroll

Entry requirements

This is a high school career-institute pathway. A parent or guardian must submit the district application; each student needs a separate application.

Applicants may choose up to two institutes, but a student can be accepted into only one. A separate account is required for the non-AACPS student application.

Application steps

  1. Review the current 2027–28 Career Institute application instructions. The on-time application window is October 15–December 15, 2026.
  2. A parent or guardian completes the application through the website, not the mobile app. AACPS families use MyPowerHub Parent/Guardian Sign In → Forms → Career and Technical Education Institute Application 2027–28. Non-AACPS families use the separate application link and create an account.
  3. Choose up to two institutes, review the safety contract, and complete the student details and parent or guardian signature.
  4. Review and submit the application. A confirmation email should arrive within 24 hours at the parent email address entered on the application.
