About the program

The two-year, 1,500-hour Cosmetology program develops hair, skin and nail-care skills through classroom and practical training at the Cecil County School of Technology.

  • Junior year, first semester: Principles & Practices of Cosmetology.
  • Junior year, second semester: Advanced Cosmetology: Theory & Application.
  • Senior year: Mastery of Cosmetology throughout the year.

Students must earn 1,000 hours by the end of junior year and complete at least 150 hours of work-based learning during the summer before senior year. Transportation is provided between students’ home schools and CCST.

What you get

Students who pass the program’s courses receive one Science credit. The program also prepares students to take the State Board of Cosmetology certification exam.

School credit and a professional license are separate: completing the training does not itself award a cosmetology license.

Schedules & start dates

Plan for a two-year commitment, including required summer work-based learning before senior year. The Cosmetology sequence starts in junior year, rather than following the shorter timetable used by many other CCST programs.
