About the program

SOHO Hair Academy’s Council Bluffs campus offers a 1,800-hour combined cosmetology and barbering program, with completion in approximately 13 months on the standard full-time schedule.

Training has two broad stages:

  • Foundations: approximately 10 weeks and 350 hours of initial skills, followed by testing before moving to the clinic floor.
  • Senior training: theory units, supervised client services, technical and discovery labs, and practical skill development.

Career support includes salon tours, career fairs, business coaching, resume preparation and interview guidance.

What you get

The 1,800-hour course prepares you for professional licensing; completing the course is not the same as receiving a license. Students who meet the relevant criteria can sign up for the NIC cosmetology exam at 1,550 hours, before completing the full course.

Students must maintain an 80% cumulative written and practical average, pass the senior written and practical exams, and meet the school’s 90% attendance standard.
