How Ohio licenses cosmetology schools and graduates

Check the school’s active license and the full program offered at your teaching campus before comparing tuition, class times, or start dates.

Verify the exact school license

Ohio’s eLicense search provides current Board license details, including status and the licensed address. Match that address to the campus where classes take place. A school license confirms approval, but does not by itself tell you which programs are currently enrolling at that location.

Check the full cosmetologist route

Ohio law requires at least 1,500 hours of Board-approved training in a school for an initial cosmetologist license, with a different rule for licensed barbers. An advanced cosmetologist route can add 300 hours of approved advanced training beyond the basic cosmetologist requirement. Hair design, esthetics, nails, barbering, and instructor courses are not interchangeable with a full cosmetology program.

Compare what you will actually attend and pay

Use each school’s current campus page and catalog to check whether the full course is offered at that address, who may enroll, required hours, tuition and mandatory supplies, weekly schedule, and next intake. An institution with several campuses may offer different programs or prices at each one. Where these facts are not supported by current sources, our directory leaves them unknown.
